The BMW F30 series is the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars was unveiled on October 14, 2011 in Munich. It will be released as a 2012 model scheduled to go on sale in early 2012.
According to BMW Press, the F30 Sedan will be launched on February 11, 2012.
New F30 saloon is 93 mm (3,7 plg) longer, 6 mm (0,2 plg) wider (42 mm including mirrors) and 8 mm (0,3 plg) taller than its predecessor (E90). The wheelbase is longer by 50 mm (2 plg). Also boot space is bigger by 20 litros (0,7 ft³). Even though the new 3 Series is bigger and has more standard equipment than its predecessors, it is lighter than the model it replaces. For example new 328i has the same weight as outgoing 325i, new 335i is 25 kilogramos (55,1 lb) lighter than outgoing 335i.
Naturally aspirated straight-six engines from 325i/330i are replaced by BMW's new N20 turbocharged inline-four two liter engine already introduced in a lot of BMW models. Top of the range 335i has the same N55 engine as E90. Diesel powertrain is still two liter inline-four N47 engine which is optimized for the new car.
Available gearbox in new 3 Series are the same as in 1 Series. 6-speed manual as standard and the 8-speed automatic ZF-8HP made by ZF Friedrichshafen is optional.
The 3 series F30 has a CD-Radio (with a MP3-Decoder) with six speakers and aux-in-connector. It is operated via the iDrive system and features a high resolution screen (6.5 inches without navigation system and 8.8 inchs with navigation system). A DVD changer or a Harman Kardon sound system with 16 speakers and 600 watts output power is available as well. BMW Apps is an extra which allows iPhone users to access web radio as well as the display of Facebook and Twitter messages on the screen. Internet access is available as well.

F30 is similar to new F20 1 Series inside, also new 3 Series will be separated in packages like 1 Series. While 1 Series has Urban and Sport lines 3 Series has Sport line, Luxury line and Modern line to choose from. Another similarities are ‘modes’ to choose from Sport to ECO PRO mode, which helps drivers save fuel.[1] New 3 Series comes with Radio Professional, incl. 6.5" colour monitor, iDrive Controller with direct menu control buttons, CD drive and MP3 decoder.
