Total Pop! The First 40 Hits es el tercer disco recopilatorio de Erasure. Tras haber realizado el álbum recopilatorio Hits! The Very Best of Erasure en 2003, Mute Records decidió volver a su estrategia anterior y compilar todos los sencillos como lo había hecho en 1992 con Pop! The First 20 Hits. Por lo tanto, este es una reedición de aquel álbum, más otro álbum con los 20 sencillos siguientes.[1]​
Total Pop! The First 40 Hits viene en formato de CD doble y también en una edición de lujo, que además de los CD incluye un libro, un tercer CD con diversas actuaciones en vivo más un DVD con todas las presentaciones en la BBC.[1]​ Total Pop! The First 40 Hits tuvo su EP adelanto: Pop! Remixed, cuyo corte de difusión fue Always 2009.
