editarSuburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing forma parte de una trilogía (junto con The Upsides (2010) y The Greatest Generation (2013)) que aborda la lucha del vocalista Dan Campbell contra el miedo, la soledad y la sensación de pérdida.[2]
El título del álbum y algunas de sus letras hacen referencia al poema "America" de Allen Ginsberg, que, según las notas del álbum, sirvió como principal inspiración para el disco. "Came Out Swinging" comienza con un fragmento de Ginsberg leyendo el poema.
